On Tuesday, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his daughter Misa Bharti countered Narendra Modi's spin over the reservation issue with counterspin.
"It is clearly said in the Constitution that reservation cannot be done on the basis of religion," Lalu thundered. "Modi yesterday (Monday) suddenly changed colour and said that we were planning to introduce 5 per cent quota on religious basis by reducing the quota for the backward classes. This is a nasty communal card that Modi has played; it is a last resort to polarise the voters and create unrest in Bihar. If the PM doesn't have any idea about the Constitution, I demand his immediate resignation."
Lalu and his daughter Misa Bharti also accused the PM of misogyny.
"In his rally at Naubatpur in Patna on Sunday, the PM said that Laluji had tried to 'set me up' during the Lok Sabha polls, and called me a bechaari (poor woman). This is an insult to me and women; the PM has stooped below even leaders like Giriraj Singh," Misa said.
"I want to know what he meant by 'set me up'. All respect I had for him is lost. He is the one who has deserted his wife and does not take care of his mother. It is his wife and mother who are bechaaris and Modi should set them up first. I lost elections from the Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituency. It is my challenge to Modi that the Grand Alliance will win all the six Assembly constituencies under Pataliputra. He (Modi) has always tried to demoralise women of the backward castes who want to come to the forefront. I plan to take legal action against his statement."
The Prime Minister had on Monday also taunted Lalu, saying he could not even ensure proper education for his children.
On Tuesday, Lalu hit back, saying that his daughter was a qualified doctor.
"I want to call on Smriti Irani and ask is she more educated than Misa? There is a verse of Rahim which... means that the bitterness of a cucumber can be reduced with salt. Modi is a bitter man and we are going to be the salt. He insults others' daughters as he doesn't know the meaning of family or children... He is the one who used his own party man Shatrughan Sinha and then flicked him away him like a fly. His rallies are seeing few people people so he has brought Hema Malini," Lalu said.
He declared that the Grand Alliance would win 190 seats.
