Bhagalpur, Dec. 11: Bibhu Raj, 8, lost both her hands and one leg because of an illness two years after she was born. But the physical challenge did not act as a deterrent to her love for painting, which hundreds were a witness to during a sit-and-draw competition organised here today.
Many others like Bibhu took part in different competitions on the second day of the Bhagalpur Mahotsav, an event organised on the premises of Teachers’ Training College to promote the culture and heritage of the silk city.
Raman Karn, a member in the organising committee, said the main aim behind organising the function was to give the children from the region a chance to explore their talents and showcase them on a proper platform.
Swasti Nitya, a child dancer who earned national repute with her performance on TV reality show Chak Dhoom Dhoom, was also present at the mahotsav. She enthralled the audience with her exceptional performance. “She (Swasti) was the winner in junior section dancing competition in 2006,” Karn said, adding that Smriti Sinha, who won the dance competition at Bhagalpur Mahotsav in 2005, became an actress in Bhojpuri film Sajan Chale Sasural.
BJP MP from Bhagalpur Shahnawaz Hussain, who inaugurated the mahotsav yesterday evening, expressed hope that this annual programme will become an international event.
