Devotees pull the 40ft-high golden rath (chariot) brought out by the Patna unit of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) on Saturday. Elephants, horses, camels and musical bands accompanied the Jagannath Rath Yatra procession. Food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak inaugurated the yatra by sweeping the road with a broom followed by devotees repeating Vedic chants after Srimad Maha Vishnu Swami who came from London. Iskcon Patna unit president Krishna Kripa Das said the yatra symbolises total cleanliness campaign. Starting from the Iskcon temple on Buddha Marg, the yatra passed through Dakbungalow Chowk, Fraser Road, Gandhi Maidan, SP Verma Road and by Mahavir Temple. More than 5000 devotees gathered to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Balaram. Text by Amit Bhelari, picture by Nagendra Kumar Singh
