Muzaffarpur, June 5: The Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), a statutory wing of the Union health ministry and indigenous medicine, has directed the homoeopathic colleges under Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University not to begin the admission process in the coming session.
A four-member team of the CCH was on a whirlwind tour of the homoeopathic colleges affiliated to the university in the state to take stock of infrastructure and requisite need of laboratory arrangements and hospitals.
The CCH has taken a serious note of the poor infrastructure of the homoeopathic colleges in Bihar. The team visited the university and monitored the functioning of the homoeopathic section of the university and expressed displeasure over the arbitrariness in the overall process.
The team led by CCH chairman Dr. Ramji Singh visited Kent Homoeopathic College, Hajipur, BN Mandal Homoeopathic College, Saharsa and KM Homoeopathic College, Bhagalpur and stumbled upon irregularities and lack of infrastructure in these colleges.
There are 14 homoeopathic colleges in different districts of the state that enjoy affiliation with the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University. College inspector of the university, Rajendra Prasad Mahto, said the visiting team directed the university to restrict admissions in the next sessions. The team was perturbed over the lack of infrastructure and dearth of faculty.
For poor infrastructure, the team asked the university to stop teaching homoeopathy in the colleges affiliated to it. The CCH had earlier put a ban on the admission process in courses under indigenous medicine including Unani and Ayurveda in the wake of poor infrastructure in the colleges.
Later, the team met the acting vice-chancellor of the university Rajendra Mishra, registrar Vibhas Yadav, proctor A.K. Srivastava and Rajendra Prasad Mahto and requested them to take immediate steps to improve the infrastructure and academic health of the homoepathic colleges.
Sources said these colleges affiliated to the university are only interested in taking admissions and conducting examinations. Not a single college is bothered to impart quality education and in-house training to the students enrolled in the colleges. The hospitals of the homoeopathy colleges are in a shambles, a member of the team said.
