Patna, Aug. 7: The state BJP unit has decided to seek feedback from the ground before selecting candidates for different Assembly constituencies.
The unit has asked district presidents, block presidents and manch morcha heads to provide feedback about popular BJP leaders who can be candidates. State BJP in-charge Bhupender Yadav and co in-charge C.R. Patil are camping in the state for this. Sushil Kumar Modi, Nand Kishore Yadav and state BJP president Mangal Pandey too are meeting office-bearers of various districts in this regard. The RSS' Nagendra Ji, also BJP's organisational secretary, is looking after the entire process.
District presidents and office-bearers of nine districts, including Muzaffarpur, met at Sushil Modi's 1 Polo Road residence for this on Thursday.
A senior BJP leader said on condition of anonymity: "The top BJP leadership is not only seeking feedback about popular BJP members in their area, but, also their strength and weakness."
The other objective is to weed out influential people who have good connections at the top but are not popular among workers and whose entry can trigger resentment among cadres. The leadership also wants to know caste demography, local issues and, above all, probable RJD, JDU or Congre-ss candidates in that seat.
Once the state leadership compiles the data, it would send a list of three names, for every seat, to the central election panel, which would then consult the BJP Parliamentary Board and zero in on a candidate. Sources said the drive would initially run in 156 seats - which have either a JDU, RJD or Congress MLA. The party is not touching BJP seats for the moment.
