Rajkumar Mishra had a tough time riding his motorcycle on Wednesday morning in dense fog when he went to drop his daughter Shatakshi to school.

“I was unable to see the road properly. I was more conscious as my daughter was riding pillion,” said Mishra, a resident of Boring Road.

Health freak Vivek Kumar Singh, a businessman residing in Rajeev Nagar, chose to remain indoors because of the foggy weather. “I woke up at 5am to go for my daily jog but I cancelled the plan seeing the fog,” he said.

Two persons were mowed down by a train near Patna Sahib railway station on Wednesday morning, as they failed to spot it in fog. Another suffered injuries.

The foggy conditions disrupted movement of trains. Sampoorna Kranti Express was cancelled for the second consecutive day. Toofan Express ran late by five hours, Vikramshila Express by eight hours, Sanghamitra Express by three hours and Brahmaputra Mail by 12 hours. Siddheshwar Singh, waiting for Brahmaputra Mail at Patna Junction, said: “Trains are running late like anything. It seems I will reach my destination in three or four days. ”

The fog hampered flight operations as well in the morning. IndiGo’s first flight, scheduled to arrive at 9.50am, was delayed by almost three-and-a-half hours.

The foggy condition would prevail in the city for the next couple of days. “Therefter, the skies would be clear in the morning,” said Ashish Sen, director, India Meteorological Department, Patna.

“Till December 23, the minimum temperature would range between 11°C and 12°C. Thereafter, the temperature would start falling owing to westerly winds. The winds are expected to start from day after tomorrow but it would become stronger after December 23. At present, there is not much cold because of easterly winds, which are warmer than the westerlies. The moisture level is 55 per cent against the normal 45 per cent, which is not allowing the temperature to dip,” he said. On the declining trend of the minimum temperature in the past week, he said: “Patna is yet to come under the full impact of westerlies.”
