An FIR was lodged on Friday against Hina Rani Devnath, Rajkishore Prasad (Hina's husband) and Sangeeta after it emerged that the three conducted sex-determination tests.
Earlier, Hina, who runs an ultrasound centre with her husband in Alamganj, had faked an extortion claim and lodged an FIR on January 14.
Hina had accused that she was asked to cough up Rs 5 lakh by Ranjeet Kumar, who had conducted a sting operation and urged Hina to stop the practice in a letter and over text messages. Madhu Kumari, who works with Ranjeet at Pratham, a non-government organisation, had filed the FIR at Alamganj police station.
Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj confirmed that the complainant levelled charges with regard to the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, 1994, which outlaws sex-determination tests.
Maharaaj said: "The health authorities would receive a letter in this connection by Saturday. Two teams are going to be constituted in collaboration with the health department, which would conduct surprise raids at city-based ultrasound centres and health organisations."
