Patna, May 3: Good communication skills, disciplinary approach, focus and innovative thinking are some virtues the banking sector wants to see in an interviewee seeking a job.

A group of banking professionals from both private and public sectors offered tips to job aspirants at a seminar on “Career and opportunities in banking sector” organised by the Leo Club of AN College on the premises of the college, today.

Later, the professionals had an interactive session with the students of the college, coming from different streams like BCA, BBA and others, where the students put many questions to the professionals.

Abhishek Parashar, an employee with the AXIS Bank, spoke about the banking opportunities that flourished in the 1990s and the qualities the aspirants need to equip themselves with for the interviews after qualifying the written tests.

“The banking sector is lucrative and comes with a lot of respect. This sector provides more job opportunities today. At this time, a plethora of job opportunities are available in this sector because of the orientation of public sector and different financial institutions. Though there are lots of options in the banking sector, be it treasury, credit section, front office, cash office, clearing section and others, students need to realise their potential before getting into competition for these jobs,” said Parashar.

He added: “What banks look for in a candidate in these tests is their communication skills, their way of tackling inter-personal relationship, disciplinary approach, focus and leadership qualities. Before the interviews, the applicants must go through these aspects, which are important for the selection.”

He said primarily three parameters are taken into account for recruitments. First, is strategic thinking for which the aspirant must possess an innovative thinking style with business acumen. Second, they should know the vision and purpose of the organisation. Third, is the enterprising aspect, which deals with leadership and communication.”
