Patna, April 24: Police have formed a joint interrogation and investigating cell, comprising officers of different security agencies in case a Naxalite or a terrorist is arrested.

The move comes only weeks after the Bahadurpur flat blast on March 30.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jitender Rana said the team, to be headed by Patna SP (west) Rajeev Mishra would comprise officers from city police, special task force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Branch and Intelligence Bureau (IB).

The team would look into cases related to Maoists and terrorists.

"The cell's functions would be useful for the police in intelligence sharing, knowing and understanding the different ways of interrogation and investigation techniques. It would also create a proper and detailed database of people involved in Naxalite and terror activities. The Patna SP (west) has been made the head of the cell, as his jurisdiction consists of police station areas that are Maoist-prone. After the Bahadurpur case, in which the role of a Jharkhand-based Maoist group was ascertained, this decision has been taken and is being initiated," the SSP said.

In the Bahadurpur blast case, two bombs were recovered.

The bombs were sophisticated in nature and a probe by the NIA revealed a Naxalite link. The terror angle, though, was ruled out. Five persons, including the main accused, were arrested although two more persons are yet to be arrested.

The investigation into the blast threw up the name of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a Jharkhand-based Naxalite group, which, according to the probe has plans to extend its operations in Patna.

"Apart from the Patna SP (west), the team comprises additional SP (operations), a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank officer of the STF, two officials of the IB and another DSP rank officer of the Special Branch. When a Maoist or a terrorist is nabbed, the team will swing into action. Its role would be intelligence sharing, interrogating the suspect in different ways, plan operations and come up with a detailed investigation report, which could be used later. This will help the police have a database to establish connections between different cases. The sharing of information would help the different agencies understand each other's ways of operation," the SSP added.

Sources said efforts are on to get officials of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the special cell.

The city has already witnessed a terror strike in the form of multiple blasts at Gandhi Maidan in 2013. In the July 2013 Bodhgaya explosions, the NIA had exposed the Darbhanga terror module being operated by the Indian Mujahideen (IM).
