Patna, March 21: For those of you who like delectable makke ki rotis, make sure you visit the stall of the agriculture department at Gandhi Maidan during Bihar Divas this year. A machine at this stall will be producing 3,600 rotis an hour.
Made from the highly nutritious quality protein maize, the rotis will be available at Rs 2 per piece, said agriculture department deputy director (information) A.C. Jain.
But it is not just agriculture, visitors can also expect a bit of culture at the stall. Street plays on farming will be performed.
Artistes will also sing anthems on the system of rice intensification (SRI).
To make the rotis more palatable, members of the Women Development Corporation will be at the stall with pickles to be served with them.
There will be much more than delicious rotis at the stall.
“Models on integrated farming will also be showcased at the stall,” said Jain.
He added: “Space in the stall has been reserved to show how a small plot of land can be utilised for various purposes by the farmers. Poultry and dairy farming can multiply production. Cultivation of flowers and fruits can also increase returns.”
A 5-ft-high idol of Lord Ganesha, made of grains and a Shanti Stupa made of makhana — a dry fruit — will also be put up at the stall.
The process of cultivating fruit and vegetables in greenhouse conditions will also be showcased.
Bihar Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute director, R.K. Sohane, said: “Farmers will display their organic produce. Movies on farming and uses of medicinal and aromatic plants will also be showcased,” added Sohane.
Five agriculture products — makhana, chiniya bananas, Jardalu mangoes, Katrani rice and Shahi litchis — will be showcased under the title “Bihar ka Gaurav” (Pride of Bihar).
“The visitors will get to know about all these products that have made the state famous,” added Sohane.
SRI is supposed to double or even triple the rice production in the state, said a source. It will be implemented in all the districts and 3.5 lakh hectare of land will be cultivated under it.
