Gaya/Muzaffarpur, April 26: Students planning to take up engineering and vocational courses need not step outside Bihar for better education. Revamped courses in these streams are on the anvil in the state.

The Magadh University administration has taken a decision to start the long-awaited engineering courses on its campus from the session starting in June.

On the other hand, the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) is set to revamp their old curriculum of vocational courses soon.

The first meeting of the Magadh University College of Engineering and Technology advisory committee was held today at the university’s Bodhgaya headquarters where several decisions were taken to start the engineering courses.

Magadh University public relations officer Shamshul Islam told The Telegraph that the committee decided to organise an entrance test for admission to the engineering courses on May 22 where aspirants will have to face multiple-choice questions.

Vice-chancellor of the university Arvind Kumar, who chaired the advisory committee meeting said engineering course in four different trades — civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics communication would start on the campus. All these four trades will have 60 seats each.

Admission to these courses would be cost effective, where students will have to pay Rs 35,000 as course fee for each session.

Students from the financially weaker section will be accorded proper attention and will get a concession on the course fee.

Besides, the quota system will also be followed in the admission process. In the long run, there are plans to launch engineering course in aeronautical trade too.

Meanwhile, student bodies of BRABU including National Student Unity of India, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wings of Janata Dal (United) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal had demanded a change in the syllabi of the vocational courses.

In addition to it, the university has approved a plan of running new vocational courses at 12 constituent colleges.

Members of the implementation and monitoring committee for vocational cell of the university headed by the acting vice-chancellor Rajendra Mishra, approved to alter the syllabus of the vocational courses.

The vice-chancellor in consultation with the members of the cell formed a four-member committee to prepare a panel of experts for every subject to do the work.

A team of the vocational cell would make on-the-spot inspection of the infrastructure and assess the possible strength of the students.

The vice-chancellor has asked the constituted team to furnish a report to him after conducting a detailed investigation within a fortnight.
