Bond is here, James Bond.

The man with the licence to kill — and thrill — is set to scorch the screens from Friday to mark 50 years of the suave spy with the classic one-liners and thin tie in subtle greys and blues.

“Very few world class films have been screened in the city before. We are screening six James Bond movies of six actors who have essayed the role of the spy on the big screen,” said Frank Krishner, who runs the trust, ACT Cine Circle.

The trust screens documentaries or films sourced directly from the maker, distributor or a private collection. These are strictly non-commercial private screenings for viewing and discussion. The six Bond films will be screened from October 5-28 at the cine circle’s office located at Patliputra Colony.

“The capacity of the hall is about 30. So one can see the films by invitation only,” said Prashant, founder of Bihardays, a news portal partnering the cine trust.

The Bond films of Sean Connery, the first actor to have played the super spy on the big screen, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan were regularly shown in Patna. But Quantum of Solace, the last 007 film released, was shown in Patna dubbed in Hindi, much to the disappointment of the Bond aficionados.

All eyes are now on whether the city will get to see the English print of the newest Bond film Skyfall, set to hit the screens next month. Krishner, the cine circle founder, said the idea behind the spy fest was to get Patna’s Bond fans of yore to gather together for the thrill show. “So we gave the event a name: Bond with Bond,” he said.

Fans of Ian Fleming’s dashing spy are eagerly awaiting the Bond feast. “I remember my childhood days when my father gifted me a poster of Sean Connery where he is wearing a finely tailored business suit with the Walther PPK revolver in his hand. The new-age Bonds like Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig use Glock pistols and even snipers,” said Utpal Pathak, an employee at a radio channel.

On her first crush, Venna Upadhaya, a social activist, said: “I was in college when the third series was out. We all bunked classes to see Roger Moore and gradually fell in love.” Upadhaya said she was counting the days for Skyfall, the latest in the Daniel Craig series. But given a choice, who would she prefer as Bond? “Roger Moore,” pat comes the answer.
