Chief minister Nitish Kumar gave a piece of his mind to officials present at his janata darbar on Monday when a 14-year-old measles patient entered the meeting.
The boy, Bhojpur resident Ishloki Kumar, and a relative had come to 1 Aney Marg to seek aid from the government for his treatment.
As soon as the chief minister saw him, he lost his temper and said: “How has a patient been allowed to enter the darbar? Patients are supposed to be taken to the hospital. Who is at the entrance? I shall not tole- rate this.”
When his secretary, S. Siddharth, turned up to inquire, Nitish continued to shout: “Don’t we have an ambulance outside the darbar? What happened to that? This is a janata dabar, not a hospital. If any of the visitors are not well, they should be taken to the hospital. This boy is a measles patient. It is a contagious disease.”
The officials present at the darbar immediately rushed to get a wheelchair and within five minutes the boy was escorted to the ambulance parked outside the CM’s house.
Nitish, however, wasn’t satisfied. “I want an explanation for this. Who allowed the boy to enter the janata darbar? Why was he not taken to a hospital instead?”
The boy was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Later, the health department principal secretary, Amarjeet Sinha, said: “Usually two doctors, two ambulances, two wheelchairs and two stretchers are kept in place for the benefit of ailing visitors to the janata darbar. They are frequently used to take sick visitors to hospitals.”
He added: “It is a matter of concern how the boy suffering from measles was allowed to enter the janata darbar.”
