Motihari, May 9: Nandan Kumar (21), a BCom final year student, who was allegedly kidnapped by some of his friends from his Banjariya residence under Banjariya police station area of the town on May 5 evening, is yet to return.
In the past four days, ever since he was abducted, his cellphone has been used a number of times by the abductors for making calls, demanding ransom.
The only son of a branch manager in Uttar Bihar Regional Rural Bank, the victim, was called outside his house on the fateful evening and then was taken away by two others on a motorcycle, eyewitnesses narrated.
According to the Nandan’s father, Ramadhar Ram, the youth was an examinee of BCom final year.
Nandan was also sup-posed to get married in June this year.
Ramadhar has three daughters and all of them are married.
Ramadhar’s son-in-law prevented him and his wife to meet or speak to the media. He also prevented them from giving the picture of Nandan or his parents.
The incident has also puzzled the district police, who have been left wondering as to why the family is not willing to name Nandan’s suspected friends.
The police said, despite repeated phone calls, the family members of the youth, did not reveal the names of the friends who he went out with on the evening of May 5.
The East Champaran superintendent of police, Ganesh Kumar, told The Telegraph: “This incident (the kidnap of Nandan) has become more mysterious, especially because when the boy left his house, he was with his friends. And now, despite repeated calls for ransom, his parents are not divulging the names of any of the friends he went out with.”
The superintendent of police said the police are investigating the case from various angles and that it would take some time for them to arrive at a conclusion.
“The police are taking all the possible steps to ensure the safe release of the youth from the clutches of the abductors,” Kumar added.
