Kurseong, April 9: To know about the floral details of Kurseong subdivision, all one has to do is log on to www.kurseonghorticulture.org.
The Kurseong Horticultural Society, formed last November, has decided to introduce the website, which will be launched by the principal secretary of the DGHC, Anil Verma, at the inauguration of a flower show at Gorkha Community Hall here on Friday.
“The horticulture association believes that though the industry here has huge potential, flower-growers here lose out on proper market opportunities. So, we have developed the website to help our cultivators find a place in the international market. It would also provide information on tourism aspects of the subdivision,” said N.B. Khawas, the president of the association today.
The flower festival, which will be accompanied by a workshop on floriculture, is being held after a gap of around five years. Fifty flower-growers from the subdivision are expected to participate in the exhibition, which will have special display of orchids (Cymbidium collection) and an array of seasonal flowers.
Around 100 members of the association are expected to attend the floriculture workshop, to be held at Gorkha Library Bhavan at Hat Bazaar here.
According to the officials, the website will contain details of the stock of flowers, their types, whether orchid or seasonal and altitudes and temperatures at which the different species are cultivated. “Lack of proper exposure has stunted the growth of the business opportunities of florists here. We are trying to act as a catalyst to their development,” Khawas said.
