Trinamul Congress leaders Tanima Bhattacharya and Ratan Malakar filed their nominations on Wednesday as independent candidates for Calcutta Municipal Corporation polls.

While the party nominated Bhattacharya from ward 68 only to be replaced later, Malakar was a sitting councillor of ward 73. Trinamul has nominated Kajari Banerjee, the wife of Mamata Banerjee’s brother Kartik Banerjee, in ward 73.

Bhattacharya, the sister of deceased minister Subrata Mukherjee, was the original choice for ward 68. Sitting councillor Sudarshana Mukherjee was dropped to field Bhattacharya. However, Mukherjee later replaced Bhattacharya in the list since several members of Subrata Mukherjee’s family had expressed their wish to contest from the same ward, sources said.
