Calcutta, April 2: AP 21TZ 0690, the truck that still lies trapped and twisted under one of the flanks of the collapsed flyover, was headed for Dhulagarh in Howrah after delivering a ginger consignment in Posta on Thursday.
Driver Sheikh Mortaza, 40, from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh escaped death with only a bruise and a few cuts but cleaner Abdul Rezzak, 25, met with a gory end, trapped inside the truck's cabin. His body was retrieved today.
Two of Mortaza's friends from Kurnool arrived at the site today and got into the vehicle to retrieve its papers (registration certificate, tax token and national permit).
"We don't know how we will face Rezzak's wife," Selim Bhai said while getting off the truck with a plastic packet containing the papers. "His daughter is just a kid."
Selim, who's been driving trucks for years, said the collapse has left him so traumatised that he would probably speed under any flyover, even if it meant jumping signals.
