Shoppers’ paradise
Organised by Rotary Club Of Calcutta Mahanagar in association with t2, India Haat, an exhibition-cum-fair of ethnic art and craft products, will be inaugurated today at 10 am by actors Rituparna Sengupta and Pallavi Chatterjee. A veritable treasure-trove of an astonishing variety of indegenous and hand-crafted items, the fair has always enjoyed the patronage of many of the city’s celebrities. Visitors can get best of canvas and ceramic painting by leading artists, brass, glass, silver and mother-of-pearl artefacts by national award winners, some exclusive bridal and designer clothing, as well as diamond, meena, kundan and polki jewellery by well-known jewellers of the country. They can also shop for home accessories, furnishings, candles or pottery. To provide a delightful and aesthetically pleasing ambience, the main gate, foyer and all the studios and stalls of the fair have been decorated with traditional handicraft items of Bengal. The proceeds from the three-day event will be used for various charitable activities of RotaryClub, including free heart surgeries for needy children, building a state-of-the-art eye hospital at Beliaghata, blood-donation helpline, disaster relief and scholarships.

QUIZ

January 21 at Victoria Memorial Hall; 2 pm - 6 pm: British Council is organizing an inter-school quiz competition, Explore UK Quiz, in association with Victoria Memorial Hall, for students of classes VII, VIII & IX. To be conducted by conducted by Barry O’Brien. The quiz will be based on the United Kingdom – its culture, society, geography, environment , people, history, sports music, etc. Any school can nominate a maximum of three teams, every team comprising one student each from Class VI, VIII & IX. The top 12 teams would be selected for Semi Final rounds on stage, which would be multimedia shows. The top six teams from the semi finals would qualify for the Grand Finale.
