Man crushed under bus in Salt Lake
A 65-year-old retired army man was crushed under the wheels of a bus near the PNB crossing in Salt Lake around 11am on Thursday.
Kajal Kumar Ghosal Chowdhury, a resident of Barrackpore, was trying to get off bus while it was moving. The bus was so crowded that he had not been able to reach the gate in time.
'Witnesses said Chowdhury jumped off the moving vehicle, lost balance and came under the rear wheels of the bus,” said a police officer.
The police took a bleeding Chowdhury to Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital where he was declared dead.
The police have arrested the driver of the bus of route 201, that travels between Belghoria and Karunamoyee.
Emergency landing
IndiGo airline flight from Guwahati was stranded on the main runway because of a snag after landing in Calcutta on Thursday evening. he pilot of the flight contacted Calcutta’s air traffic control minutes before landing and sought help for the snag, said officials. The aircraft had to be towed away, said officials. The landing of a flight and the take-off of two other flights were delayed by a few minutes.

Chain snatch
A bike-borne thief snatched a gold chain off a woman in Haridevpur around 3.15pm on Thursday. The woman, a medical representative, was walking home to Sodepur Park at the time of the incident, said police.
