Probe into NRS newborn death

The committee formed to probe the death of a newborn at NRS Medical College and Hospital, recorded the statement of the mother, Shatabdi Ghosh, on Sunday. Her husband Bimal had lodged a police complaint on Saturday alleging that when his wife went into labour she was made to walk to the labour room. Shatabdi could not cover the distance and delivered a girl in the corridor. The baby died. The panel will have to submit its report by Monday afternoon.

Chhath clash

Four persons were arrested after clashes between two groups celebrating Chhath on Saturday near Thakurpukur. Police said the clashes broke out after a member of one of the groups allegedly threw a chocolate bomb at a girl. Three youths were injured in the incident.

Two killed

Sagar Pal, 16, a Class X student, who was standing at a door of a Barrackpore-bound local train fell down between Khardah and Titagarh stations after hitting a pole. Jyotiranjan Pradhan died after falling off a Howrah-Bandel local between Seoraphuli and Baidyabati stations. He was declared dead at a hospital.

SSKM scare

Patients at the maternity ward of SSKM Hospital were alarmed when one of the oxygen cylinders kept in the ward started leaking on Sunday. Three fire engines were rushed to the spot. The firemen removed the cylinder from the ward. No one was injured.
