Suri (Birbhum), Nov. 26: Birbhum police have tightened security in and around temples in the district in view of the recent attack on the Raghunath temple in Jammu. Security has also been beefed up at the Bakreswar hot springs.

“We have deployed adequate armed police forces and plainclothesmen on the temple premises. Police patrol in the area has been increased,” said superintendent of police Jayanta Basu, referring to the Tarapith temple.

However, pilgrims and the temple authorities are not feeling secure enough. “How can 5-10 policemen defend the temple visited daily by about 1,000 pilgrims?” asked Mahaprasad Panda, a temple official.
