The accused have been identified as Arun Kumar, 61, and Rinku Gupta, 43.

Kumar, who traces his roots to Pitampura in Delhi, is now based in Italy, the police said. Gupta lives on Biplabi Anukul Chandra Street in the Chandni Chowk area of central Calcutta.

The men were arrested on the basis of a complaint by one of the women who went to the bar with her sister and some other family members to celebrate a birthday, police sources said.

Kumar, who was staying at the hotel, had invited his friend Gupta to the same bar, the sources said.

The alleged molestation is said to have taken place around 11.50pm, a police officer said.

“The complainant and her sister went to the dance floor. The two men also took to the dancing area and tried to dance with the women who spurned their advances. It was then that the accused allegedly molested the women,” a senior officer said quoting the complainant and hotel staff.

“The accused persons aided and abetted each other and outraged the modesty of the complainant and her sister. They were touched in an objectionable and illegal manner. When they protested, they were threatened with dire consequences,” the officer said.

A ruckus followed and a team from the local Pragati Maidan police station arrived soon. A spokesperson for the hotel said: “All support has been extended to the relevant authorities.”
