Jalpaiguri, Sept. 26: Details of land available for industrial purposes can now be found in the district?s official website, the first of its kind in the state.

The move comes in the wake of Jalpaiguri being identified by the state government as a destination for setting up industries.

The district administration, with the help of officials of the block land and land reforms department, has already identified 3,413 acres of land in different parts of Jalpaiguri.

In addition, the decision to open an industrial liaison cell at the district collectorate with an information kiosk has also been finalised.

?We have thought of reducing the time lag that entrepreneurs suffer from when they think of procuring land for investment. A land bank with details on every plot available for industrial purposes would be opened. It would be a single window service,? said A. Subbiah, the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri.

The website project is part of the land bank enterprise.

?Internet is a good medium to project the land available with us. We have identified a few thousands acres in the first phase. Entrepreneurs will benefit much as they will only have to surf to get the information.?

The administration has, so far, identified and verified 90 plots, each three acres and more, which can be projected as probable industrial sites.

According to Subbiah, Titagarh Biotec, a Calcutta-based company, has already approached the district administration to set up a bio-diesel plant. More than 200 acres have been allotted to it.

?The project will come up in Jalpaiguri Sadar block with an investment of around Rs 40 crore. The plant will produce bio-diesel from Jetropha plants. The project is in the final stages of approval,? the district magistrate said.

At a time when the land and land reforms department has given a green signal to the bio-diesel plant, the district magistrate has decided to send a report to the government on ?Alternative Agriculture Practices for Development?.

?We have thought of using waste and fallow land for these purposes,? an administrative official said.

Administrative sources said minister of industries and commerce Nirupam Sen is likely to inaugurate the industrial liaison cell and release the land bank report in November this year.
