PC to train Bengal Congress in CAA nuances
Former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram, entrusted with the responsibility of spearheading the Congress’s information campaign against the BJP’s citizenship regimen, will hold a training for the party’s Bengal leaders in Calcutta on Saturday to equip them with better answers to questions on the new law.
The Congress state unit on Tuesday said Chidambaram would conduct a “leadership training camp” at the state headquarters at Bidhan Bhavan.
“After Narendra Modi turned even the holy, apolitical, inclusive site of the Belur Math into his political akhada and elaborately lied about the amended citizenship law, we decided that every syllable of those lies must be countered on the streets, before the masses. That is why we have asked Chidambaramji to adequately train the leadership in the nuances,” said Bengal Congress chief Somen Mitra.
“Chidambaramji would be able to equip us all with better answers to the frequently asked questions on the CAA-NPR-NRC,” he added.
The camp will begin at 11am and continue till the evening. The state unit’s communications chief, Amitabha Chakraborti, said the session would begin with a discussion with Chidambaram on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and its allied issues.
“He will tell us in detail about the unconstitutionality of the act and how it would affect the lives of the masses, irrespective of religion.
After that, there will be a question-and-answer session. The state leadership and the district chiefs will ask the questions, and Chidambaramji will answer,” Chakraborti said.
“The whole exercise will be recorded. Within days, it will be transcribed, translated and published in the form of a campaign booklet in Bengali, simplified enough for even a school kid to understand. The booklet will counter every lie of the booklet issued by the BJP,” he added.
Besides Chidambaram and state chief Mitra, the party’s Bengal minder, Gaurav Gogoi, will be present at Saturday’s session.
