Eight teachers of Bakhrahat Girls High School, in Bishnupur, on the southern fringes of the city, attended work on Thursday clad in salwar-kameez. After eight days, they entered the school escorted by police. An official from the school education department was also present. The students tied rakhis on their wrists. The guardians were divided in their opinion. Some said they were not bothered about dress codes; they were more concerned about the education of their children. A few, however, felt that teachers ought wear saris. Anup Ghosh, the secretary of the school, said: “I only want regular classes to be held. We do not want a repeat of the August 21 incident, when some students were beaten up by teachers. Today, an official from the education department has come and she will enquire into the matter.” Picture by Sanjoy Chattopadhyaya |
