Baruipur, June 27: The CPM secretary of South 24-Parganas, Sujan Chakraborty, was among five persons named in the FIR lodged today in connection with the murder of a Trinamul panchayat samiti candidate in Baruipur yesterday.

Chakraborty said: “This is a conspiracy against me.”

According to villagers and slain Trinamul leader Shibram Naskar’s family members, the four persons named in the complaint other than Chakraborty were Trinamul workers.

The CPM had alleged that the murder was the fallout of Trinamul factional feud. Trinamul had accused the CPM of the murder.

All five named in the FIR have been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy, police said. Shibram’s daughter today said her father was killed by Trinamul worker Kanu Sapui with whom he had a “fight” two years ago. Kanu has been named in the FIR.

Trinamul leader Partha Chatterjee visited Shibram’s house and blamed the CPM for the murder. “As the polls are drawing near, the CPM is resorting to such acts.”

Deb protest threat

CPM leader Gautam Deb said party cadres would hit the streets if “unfair action” was taken against Chakraborty.

Deb described Trinamul’s “intimidation” of Opposition workers in the two 24-Parganas as “Operation Basanti Road”.
