Gunjan Ghosh, serving life imprisonment for abducting a Salt Lake girl, has been handed a second life-term.
A Sealdah fast-track court on Tuesday sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing business partner Biswajit Dey. The 28-year-old was convicted for the crime on Monday.
After the order was delivered, Gunjan was sent to Presidency jail where he was lodged.
When the magistrate asked him if he had anything to say in his defence, Gunjan claimed that he had been framed.
“I will move higher court. The truth will emerge one day,” the youth later said. None of his relatives could be seen in the court on Tuesday.
The police had said Gunjan used to run a pool car business with Biswajit. “He murdered Biswajit in July 2004 in an attempt to grab the entire business. Gunjan shot Biswajit twice in the chest and dumped the body in the Narkeldanga canal,” said an officer.
The sleuths came to know about Gunjan’s role in the murder while questioning him in connection with the abduction of Salt Lake resident Roma Jhawar.
Gunjan is also accused of killing a 22-year-old engineering student, Mithun Koley, the son of a Dum Dum businessman in 2003.
Gunjan had allegedly injured Mithun critically while trying to abduct him and later dumped the student in a comatose state at NRS Medical College and Hospital. The student died six months later.
Gunjan was first arrested on the charge of being involved in Roma’s abduction. He had picked up the girl when her car stopped at a traffic signal near her Salt Lake house.
