Calcutta, June 11: A division bench of Calcutta High Court today directed the CBI to file an affidavit on June 20 detailing the progress of its probe into the 2007 Nandigram police firing.
Justices Asim Kumar Banerjee and Mrinal Kanti Chowdhury gave the directive today on the basis of a joint plea by the relatives of 13 villagers who died in the police firing on March 14, 2007. The petition was filed about three months ago.
“The CBI is directed to file an affidavit on June 20 stating the details about the progress of the probe it had been conducting since 2007,” the division bench said in its order.
On March 15, 2007, a day after the firing, the division bench of the then Chief Justice S.S. Nijjar and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose had passed a suo-motu order directing the CBI to conduct the probe.
