Police have initiated a probe.

In Malda, mango orchards usually remain deserted in the evenings during off-season. These four youths, all residents of Lichupara under Mahadipur panchayat, had chosen such a deserted orchard to drink liquor.

“We heard noises and rushed to the orchard. The youths were stabbing each other with sharp weapons in a drunken state. All got injured. We intervened and rushed them to the MMCH while they were bleeding profusely. At the MMCH, doctors pronounced Samirul dead,” said a villager.

“A case has been registered and an enquiry started to know the cause of the scuffle. The police outpost has been asked to keep a vigil in the area,” said a police officer.
