Covid: Bengal records 561 new infections and eight deaths

Bengal on Sunday recorded 561 new Covid-19 infections, 686 recoveries and eight deaths.

The total number of active cases in the state fell by 133 to 9,461 with 63 successive days of a slide. Calcutta logged 74 new infections and two deaths.

With North 24-Parganas reporting 79 new cases, Sunday was the 17th consecutive day again of not one Bengal district reporting a three-digit figure of new infections in a day.

Sixteen of Bengal's 23 districts reported a two-digit figure of new infections. Kalimpong, North and South Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Purulia reported single-digit figures.

Eighteen Bengal districts reported zero deaths on Sunday. Howrah, Hooghly and North 24-Parganas reported one each.

The state’s recovery rate is 98.2 per cent, its highest this pandemic, and fairly ahead of the national rate of 97.5.

The state’s daily positive confirmation rate is now 1.53 per cent on Sunday. It was nearly 33 per cent at the peak of the second wave.

The state’s mortality rate remained 1.19 now, while that of the nation stayed put at 1.34 per cent.

The state currently has nearly 15.43 lakh Covid-19 cases, since the first was reported in March last year. The total includes more than 15.15 lakh recoveries and 18,364 deaths.
