The teachers left the programme with awareness of childhood care and confidence in the implementation of new curriculum.
The workshop was also attended by the parents of students studying in the SAPS under the Trishakti Corps.
Trek to Mt Frey
Engineers Regiment launched its maiden mountaineering expedition to Mount Frey (20,004ft) in West Sikkim. The team was flagged off by Lt Gen. Deepak Raj, General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps, at Sukna on May 12.
The team comprising two officers and 12 others of the regiment was led by Col Anand Swaroop, SM.
All the team members were trained in basic/advance mountaineering courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling.
The peak was named after George Frey who, during a pre-Everest expedition with legendary Tenzing Norgay, fell and died on the mountain. His ice axe and crampons serve as his memorial at the base of this mountain.
The expedition involves a day’s journey by road to Yoksum (5,826 ft), followed by four days’ trek to base camp. The trekking route is from Yoksum-Bakhim (9,000 ft), Dzongri (13,220 ft) and Chaurikhang (14,600 ft).
Chaurikhang will also serve as the base camp for the expedition.
On the mountain, the team will establish two camps at heights of 16,000ft and 18,000ft before attempting to reach the summit.
The team departed for the mountain on May 13 and is likely to scale the summit on May 26 or 27.
The team’s scheduled return is on June 2.
