Around 200 people whose livelihood has been hit by Covid-19 curbs got dry ration on Sunday at Kalahrdaya, a Jesuit-run centre for art and culture in Nepalgunj.

The centre, on the southern fringes of Calcutta, is around 40km from the heart of the city.

“Many of these people used to depend on daily wages. Now their income has stopped,” said Father Saju George, the founder-director of the 20-year-old centre. The centre had provided relief materials to over 3,000 families during the lockdown and after cyclone Amphan last year.

On Monday, volunteers of the centre went to the Mathurapur II block of the Sunderbans to distribute relief materials among families affected by cyclone Yaas.
