Sharma, who was driving a car, disembarked and gave Bablu a chase, alerting local residents who also joined him and nabbed the accused. Informed by the local residents, the police arrived and rescued Bablu from the hands of the angry villagers and recovered the baby.

After a medical check-up, the baby was handed over to his mother Mamata Biswas, who had lodged a complaint against Bablu at Chakdah police station. Bablu, a migrant labourer, had allegedly abducted the baby on June 11 to settle scores with his wife.
