Score: 98.25%
Marksheet: Mathematics 100, computer science 100, English 98, chemistry 95, physics 92
School: St. Xavier’s Collegiate School
Stays in: Cluster III, Purbachal Housing Estate
Preparation: I attended both the coaching classes and the exams conducted by FIITJEE. I also had a tutor per subject. Our school is very strict about attendance. I must have had above 90 per cent. Frankly the classes at school were enough to cover the Board syllabus. I used to be home by 2pm and sat down to study for a couple of hours before going to play in the afternoon. My tuitions were in the evening and I would be back home by 8pm. I sat down to study after dinner but went to bed by midnight. During the study leave, I studied for 10-12 hours daily.
Future plans: I have come 55th in WBJEE, so I plan to study computer engineering in Jadavpur University.
Hobbies: I played tennis for 10 years in Bengal Tennis Academy till Class XI. I also play football in the locality with friends. I follow all sports except cricket and golf. My football favourite clubs are Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Mohun Bagan. I was the goal-keeper in the school team. I was in the stands when Oliver Kahn, my favourite goal-keeper, played at Salt Lake stadium. But a more joyous moment was Mohun Bagan winning I-League recently. In tennis, my favourite is Roger Federer. I also love to read the classics, especially Charles Dickens. I was very active in school quizzes and exhibitions, and was the founder president of the Science Club.

Marksheet: Political science 100, psychology 99, sociology 99, history 94, English 94, Bengali 80
School: Salt Lake School
Stays in: AK Block, Action Area 1, New Town (formerly of AB Block, Salt Lake)
Preparation: I had no tutors. The school teachers helped me out. My grandfather taught me English. I used to study for seven-eight hours consistently, waking up at 6am. Ever since we shifted to New Town in Class XI, the journey to school took much more time — 40 minutes by bus in place of 15 minutes on foot.
Future plan: I want to study law at Calcutta University. The other option is to study political science. I have already got through at St. Xavier’s College. I will also take the admission test at Jadavpur University.
Hobbies: I like to listen to music. Anupam Roy and Arijit Singh are my favourites. I used to go to drawing classes in AB Block. Now I sketch sometimes. But frankly, chatting with people at home — my grandparents, brother and parents — takes up all my free time.

Future plan: I want to study psychology in Bethune College.
Hobby: I love watching music channels on TV.

Marksheet: Mathematics 100, Computer science 100, physics 99, chemistry 96, English 92
School: Salt Lake School
Stays in: BB Block
Preparation: I had a tutor in each subject. But I focused on studying by myself and solving question papers. I tried to be conceptually sound. That way I could attempt more difficult questions for competitive exams. Through Class XII, I sat for FIITJEE tests. For the Board exams, I solved a lot of test papers during the study leave.
Future plans: I want to study engineering, possibly at one of the NITs. Mechanical engineering looks to be the most interesting but I am waiting for the JEE Mains result.
Hobbies: I took tabla lessons till Class X. I like Rabindrasangeet. Often I would play music CDs and practise playing the tabla alongside. I am fond of rock music also. Green Day and Nickelback are my favourite bands.

School: Salt Lake School
Stays in: EE Block
Preparation: The Board exam was always my top priority and my school teachers gave me tremendous support. I couldn’t wake up early as I studied late, often till 3am. Still I tried to put in an hour’s study before leaving for school.
Future plans: My WBJEE rank in medical is 20 and in engineering 512. Though studying in AIIMS is a temptation, I think I will study medicine in Calcutta. My father is a civil engineer with KMDA, my elder brother is a software engineer. But there is not a single doctor in the family. This will allow me to look after my parents.
Hobbies: I was a disciple of Pandit Amiyaranjan Bandyopadhyay till Class X. I continued Rabindrasangeet lessons at home from my parents who are still students of Ashish Bhattacharya. I want to rejoin Rabindrasangeet classes with Dipen Mukherjee, a senior student of Ashoktaru Bandyopadhyay, who stays in AE Block.

Score: 91.6%
Marksheet: Statistics 97, chemistry 96, mathematics 93, English 88, physics 87, Bengali 84
School: Laban Hrad Vidyapith Stays in: Kestopur
Preparation: I had five tutors. The one thing that helped me a lot was regular tests conducted by my tutors. I had laid special stress on Bengali and English as I studied them only five months before the Board exams. I came third in the pre-board examination. This got me worried and I started to study even more at home, at times for six hours at a stretch. On some days, I would go outside and play with my friends too.
Future plans: I have scored 2,919 in WBJEE and am trying to enrol in electrical engineering or computer engineering. As a second option I would like to study statistics in Presidency University. My parents have told me that I can continue studies for as long as I want. So most likely I will do a Ph.D as well.
Hobbies: I love listening to music when I am free. I also love football and play the sport regularly apart from following the matches. I love cartoons and computer games.
CBSE CLASS XII:

Scoresheet: Chemistry 100, computer science 100, physical education 97, mathematics 95, physics 95, English 95
School: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan
Stays in: Block A, Lake Town
Preparation: I was expecting a score like this. I did not take any tuitions other than FIITJEE coaching and tests. I studied five-six hours when school was open and six to eight hours during study leave.
Future plans: I have taken admission in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. But my goal is to study in IIT for which the results are awaited. My WBJEE rank is 23 but I do not intend to study here.
Hobby: Swimming is my passion. I have participated in the CBSE inter-school sports and games at the national level for four years. I have represented North 24-Parganas in various state championships in Chinsurah, Tamluk, Barrackpore and Subhas Sarobar. I have also been playing the tabla since Class I. I also used to draw. I love to read detective stories, especially by Agatha Christie, Satyajit Ray and Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. I used to read Tintin stories while the exams were on to relax.

Score: 95.28%
Marksheet: Mathematics 100,
physical science 100, life science 99, geography 98, history 95, Bengali 92, English 83
School: Bidhannagar Municipal School
Stays in: AE Block
Preparation: I had tutors for all subjects. I did not follow a routine throughout the year. However, I drew up one once the pre-board examinations got over in November. I would study for eight to nine hours daily and had dedicated time slots for each subject. One week before the Board exams, I let off steam a bit and would study less. I had also gone to stage a play in Balurghat one month before my examinations.
Future plans: I have already taken admission in the science stream in my own school. I want to start preparing for Joint Entrance Examinations but haven’t decided whether to become a doctor or an engineer yet.
Hobbies: I started painting at a young age and have just graduated to oil paintings. I also love to act and have been a part of our school’s drama team since Class VI. I also love to play cricket and football and play with my neighbourhood friends.
Do you know anyone doing very well in Joint Entrance Examinations (Advanced)?
