Set against the backdrop of familial bonds and rediscovered relationships, Aamar Boss tells the story of a mother and son navigating their way back to each other. The trailer, launched last week, offers a heartwarming glimpse into this emotional journey, with veteran actress Rakhee and Shiboprosad Mukherjee playing pivotal roles in the Windows film.

Present at the launch were directors Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, alongside the cast featuring Rakhee, Srabanti, Gourab Chatterjee, Avery Singha Roy, Aishwarya Sen, Shruti Das, and Uma Banerjee. Anupam Roy and Prashmita Paul also graced the occasion, performing the soulful track Bawshonto dekeche amake, much to the delight of the audience. Adding to the vibrancy of the event, Shruti Das, Aishwarya Sen and Avery Singha Roy took to the stage, performing a lively dance to the spring song. Meanwhile, the gathering was further enlivened by the presence of the rest of the cast, who cheered and engaged warmly with attendees.

A particularly touching moment was when Rakhee, dressed simply yet elegantly in a maroon sari, addressed the crowd with her signature grace. Notably, she and director Nandita Roy appeared in twinning maroon ensembles, adding a charming touch of camaraderie to the evening. Speaking with warmth and candour at the event, Rakhee reflected on her career and the journey that led her to Aamar Boss. “I have always preferred outdoor shoots,” she said. “Many people might not know that apart from Bollywood and Bengali films, I have also acted in Assamese and Odia cinema. When Shiboprosad first approached me with the script, I took some time to think about it. At that point, just a few weeks earlier, I had lost my brother, whose name was also Shibu. It felt like a strange coincidence — Shiboprosad and Nandita, Shibu and Nandi,” she added.

Rakhee shared that she no longer chooses projects lightly. “Today, I only take up work if the story truly appeals to me. Stardom is no longer important. What matters is whether the script has something meaningful to say, something that resonates with the times we are living in.” Speaking about her work philosophy, she said, “I have always believed that the atmosphere on set needs to be full of warmth and camaraderie. I used to give my co-actors nicknames, just to make everyone feel at ease. For me, it was never just about the stars or the big names — it was about building real relationships. From the spot boys to the make-up artistes, everyone is part of the team, and unless everyone feels included, the work will never truly come alive.” Reflecting on her long-standing reputation for humility, she added, “I never cared much for who was a ‘superstar’ or whether someone was a three-star or four-star actor. Maybe that’s why I never had enemies in this industry. Relationships always came first for me.”

Director Nandita Roy spoke with great emotion about the personal connections that inspired the bond between Rakhee and Shiboprosad’s characters in the film. “The bond between Rakhee and Shibu’s characters is very much inspired by the real-life relationship between Shibu and his mother,” she began. “I personally lost my parents at a very young age, so my memories are mainly about discipline and structure. But Shibu shares such a beautiful, affectionate bond with his mother, one filled with love and understanding. When I first wrote this script, I was absolutely certain that only Rakhee could embody this role. I told Shibu, and his immediate response was, ‘Impossible!’ He couldn’t believe it. But here’s the thing — whenever I’ve asked Shibu for something, he has always made it happen, no matter how difficult. He’s always found a way to give me what I need, and that’s something I truly value.”

She continued, speaking with genuine warmth and affection for Rakhee. “Rakhee was a superstar when I was younger, and now, after all these years, she has become like family to me. She’s more than a colleague — she’s like a sister. I can’t imagine this film without her in it. The connection we share goes beyond just the professional; it’s deeply personal, and that’s what made working on Aamar Boss such a meaningful experience for me.”

Aamar Boss, which promises to blend emotion, nostalgia and spirited storytelling, has already begun to stir excitement among audiences, with its trailer offering a glimpse into the heartfelt narrative the film is set to bring to screens this May 9.

Shiboprosad Mukherjee, dressed in a summery white shirt, spoke about the significance of Aamar Boss and his deep respect for Nandita Roy and Rakhee. “Aamar Boss is truly a film made for the audience. It’s a story that resonates with everyone. The universal appeal of the mother-son bond at the heart of the film is something that anyone, no matter their background or life experience, can connect with. Rakheedi has always been like family to me. She is not just an icon of Bengali cinema but someone I hold in the highest regard. I feel incredibly privileged that we have such a legendary figure in our film. She brings an unmatched depth and grace to the character, and it’s an honour to have her on board. This film feels like it has been made for her.”

May has always been a lucky month for Windows. “On May 1, 2015, we released Belaseshe, which was a turning point in our careers. A year later, on May 27, 2016, Praktan touched hearts across the world, and then on May 12, 2017, Posto was released. Every time, May has been a month of milestones for us. Now, here we are, with Aamar Boss in 2025. This is the first Windows film of the year, and we have high hopes for it. We are releasing the film during the Mother’s Day weekend, and it feels like a fitting tribute to mothers everywhere. We really hope the film resonates with audiences and touches their hearts, just as it has touched ours during the making of it. We put so much of ourselves into this, and we truly believe it will find its way into the hearts of the people.”
