National camps for archers

The Archery Association of India will conduct two national-level training camps for senior recurve men and women archers at the steel city this month to keep them in fine fettle for upcoming national and international events.

Jamshedpur: The Archery Association of India will conduct two national-level training camps for senior recurve men and women archers at the steel city this month to keep them in fine fettle for upcoming national and international events.

The twin camps, which are also supported by the Jharkhand Archery Association, will be held from March 5 to 18 and March 19 to 31 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

A total of 34 men and women archers will participate in the first camp while 25 others are expected to sweat it out at the second.

Meanwhile, a selection trial for picking the Indian recurve squad for Asian Games and World Cup (Stage 1 and 2), will also be hosted in the city from March 15 to 18. Archers who have achieved certain scores in nationals/national ranking archery tournament (NRAT)/ state championsh-ips/ state trials and inter-university events have been invited for the trials.

"Eight best archers (men and women) will be selected after the trials," said Jharkhand Archery Association vice president L. Murty.

He said preparations for smooth conduct of all three camps were complete.
