Calcutta: Yuvraj Singh is back and how! Playing his second match on comeback, the stylish left-handed batsman did not only rescue India from a tricky situation against England at the Barabati Stadium, but also went on to score his highest ODI score in the process.

Man of the Match Yuvraj's sparkling 150 scored off 127 balls, with the help 21 boundaries and three sixes, coupled with Mahendra Singh Dhoni's magnificent 134 helped India post 381 for six.

England chased valiantly, but lost by 15 runs, thereby losing the three-match series too.

Yuvraj termed his Thursday's effort as one of his best. "Probably, one of my best innings. I don't know when was the last time I got a hundred... I think probably it was in the 2011 World Cup. I am very happy with the innings," Yuvraj said.

His last ODI century was indeed in the 2011 World Cup, when he had scored 113 against the West Indies in Chennai.

Speaking after the match, Yuvraj said that he doesn't allow any distraction as he had a point to prove to himself.

"I don't think about who's reacting to what... Neither do I read newspapers, nor do I watch television. I was just focusing on my game...

"Just wanted to prove a point to myself that I'm still good enough to play international cricket. I guess I was good today."

A warrior of many a battle, the 35-year-old said that he never gave up despite the difficulties.

"After recovering from cancer, the first two-three years were hard. I had to work on my fitness... Then I was out of the team, not being able to get a permanent spot. There was a time when I wondered whether I should continue or stop. A lot of people have helped me in this journey. Never giving up is my theory... So I never gave up."

Elaborating more on his fitness, Yuvraj said: "I think my diet is the key and that is what I have learnt from my seniors like (Sachin) Tendulkar, (Anil) Kumble and all the greats... I need to keep doing that."

Asked if he would attribute this success to wife Hazel Keech, Yuvraj said: "Yes definitely, the lady luck is there, but I think the prayers of my mother and my Guruji have helped me and kept me going."

Expressing his happiness about Thursday's innings, Yuvraj said that he would try to be more consistent in the future.

"It's my highest (score in ODIs)... It has taken a long time to get here. Hopefully, in the coming time I will bat with more consistency.

"I started my career as a lower order batsman... The higher you bat more runs you will get. Getting 150 was one of the targets of my career, I am very happy to get that, hopefully will get some more in the future."

Yuvraj was also thankful to captain Virat Kohli and the team management for having faith in him.

"Self-confidence grows when you have the backing of the team and the captain. Virat had faith in me and the people in the dressing room trusted me. That was very important for me. So I just tried to make it big on my day," he said.

About his 256-run partnership with Dhoni, Yuvraj said their better understanding of each other's game helped.

"We weren't discussing much in the middle... MS is one of the most experienced players in the team, so he knows what needs to be done in a situation.

"Since I was getting boundaries, he was just there rotating the strike. We gradually built our partnership, starting with a 25-run target," Yuvraj said. "We were not thinking about the big score, we just wanted to keep the partnership going... Once we had a 50-run partnership, we started playing some shorts. We were thinking of 340-350, but with wickets in hand we ended up getting much more.

"We have batted together a lot... Mostly in the middle-order. We have won a lot of games together. The camaraderie is there, the understanding is there. That definitely helped."

Praising Dhoni's effort further, Yuvraj said: "MS has been a sensational captain for India. I had said that when he would not be captaining, he would bat freely... He did that today."

Despite batting quite aggressively, Yuvraj revealed that his primary aim was not to take much risk.

"I just wanted to play down the ground and not take much risk. I have been hitting the ball well in the domestic season. I work hard on my fitness... Even in the last match, I was hitting the ball well," Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj had words of praise for England too. "Their batting is really good, a lot of dangerous players in the middle-order. It's a young group, looks like a dangerous side for the future. The more they play, the better they will be," he said.

More or less all the English bowlers were tortured by Dhoni and Yuvraj during the innings. While Chris Woakes would stand out for being one of the better bowlers on the day taking four for 60 bowling 10 overs, Liam Plunkett fared worst, bleeding 91 runs from his 10 overs for two wickets.
