India did manage to level the ODI series versus Australia here on Friday, but injuries to openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have raised some concerns going into Sunday’s decider at the Chinnaswamy.

Dhawan was hurt by a delivery from Pat Cummins early in the 10th over of India’s innings. The ball hit the left-hander’s elbow and then crashed on to his rib cage.

Later, in the 43rd over of Australia’s reply, Rohit hurt his left shoulder while trying to prevent a four at the deep and had to go off the playing arena. The duo have only a day in between to recover for the series decider.

It was later learnt that Dhawan is “fine”, but there’s no “clarity” as far as Rohit is concerned.

“Rohit is getting the medical treatment from the physio, but we don’t have full clarity as of now… As for Shikhar, he is fine now,” a team spokesperson said after India’s 36-run victory.

Rohit, in fact, has hurt his left shoulder on a few occasions in the past. Captain Virat Kohli, however, believes the opener will be fit for the Super Sunday encounter.

“I asked Rohit briefly about the injury. It’s that left shoulder of his that has popped out a few times. There’s no tear, so hopefully, he should be back for the next game,” the skipper said at the post-match presentation.

The injuries aside, KL Rahul's form will certainty keep the Indian camp in good spirits. And for the man himself, he has no complaints about the batting order slotted to him. “Coming to those series in the last couple of months (versus Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka) and performing there augured well for me and I have been in decent form and I'm pretty confident of my skills...”

Captain Kohli was obviously effusive in his praise for Rahul. “Batting at No.5 and playing like that for the team, it’s probably the best he has played at the international level,” Kohli said.
