London: The French challenger Pour Moi displayed a devastating turn of foot, in the stretch run, to win the Investec Derby, albeit narrowly, from Treasure Beach and the 5-2 course-favourite, Carlton House, at the Epsom Down, on Saturday. Ridden by Mikckael Barzalona, a 19-year-old Frenchman, the 4-1 fancy, lurked almost in the rear of the 13-horse field, till 600 metres of home, while the Queen's horse, Carlton House, was seen disputing the issue with the two rank-outsiders — Treasure Beach and the longtime leader, Memphis Tennesse.

'It is a fabulous victory;' said an excited Barzalona. Andre Fabre, who trained the winner, was simply delighted after the victory. 'It's a pleasure to win the Derby for France;' said Fabre. The last time a French horse won the ‘Derby’ was in the year 1976. Also, the result ensures the Queen's long wait for success in the Derby goes on. The closest Her Majesty came to winning the Derby was in the year 1953 when her Aureole was second.
