Calcutta: East Bengal’s new recruit MacDonald Mukansi has promised to deliver from his very first game.
The South African, who may be fielded in the CFL Premier Division match versus Peerless on October 27, is set to sign on the dotted line on Wednesday.
“I will try to deliver from Day I… That’s my sole aim… That’s what I have come here for,” Mukansi said after a one-and-half hour training session at the East Bengal ground on Tuesday.
On why he decided to play in India, the medio said it was a spontaneous choice.
“I had other offers too… There was no solid reason behind my move… It was a spontaneous choice… I felt like coming over here,” the South African said.
Mukansi is a former junior athletics champion and has represented the South African national team. Besides being a member of the 2002 World Cup squad, he has also played for five different clubs in the South African premier league and in Cyprus.
On how the stint at East Bengal will help his career, the 32-year old said: “Football is same all over the world… The same rule is followed… I want to give my best and go on playing.”
Nicknamed ‘scooter’, Mukansi said he hasn’t yet thought of any specific plans against Mohun Bagan.
“Well I have to play and perform well whoever the opponents are… If I perform against them (Mohun Bagan) and fail to deliver in other matches that’s not going to help my club.”
Subrata Bhattacharya declined to reveal his plans regarding Mukansi. “There is a long gap before the start of the league,” is all that he said.
