Calcutta: Mohun Bagan striker Jeje Lalpekhlua dedicated his hat-trick to his mother Hnun Puii on Mother's Day.
"My mother always inspires me, I am dedicating this performance to her. This is for my mother," Jeje said after the match.
The Mizoram lad has already scored 18 goals for Bagan in this season. "National coach Stephen Constantine and (Sanjay) Sen helped me a lot, I am grateful to them," Jeje said on Sunday. "Not only me, everyone in the team played their part. We played well as an unit," the Man of the Match said.
Asked what was the secret behind his success, Jeje replied: "I did not have any major injury this season that is one of the main reasons. But again, I would like to say one thing; everybody in the team supported me. Its not about me. Its about Mohun Bagan," Jeje said.
Bagan coach Sen also sounded very happy after the match. "My team played extremely well against Lajong FC, but our job is not yet finished. Jeje played his part. It is not easy to score 18 goals for the club. He has improved a lot," Sen said.
The Bagan coach also praised young Azharuddin Mallick. "If you ask me which goal is the best among the five we scored today, I would select the last one -scored by Mallick. He followed the ball very well," Sen added.
Bagan's main target on Sunday was not to concede a goal. In the pre-match press meet, Sen had said, "Our first target will be not to concede a goal." After his team thrashed Lajong FC 5-0, Sen sounded pleased with his defenders.
"Overall our defence played well, it's a very good win for us, but at the same time we have to start from zero when we play our next match," Sen added. But Sen also said Bagan should have got a couple of more goals on Sunday.
On the other hand, Lajong FC coach Thangboi Singto was very disappointed after the humiliating loss to Mohun Bagan. Lajong FC would host Bagan in the second leg semi-final on Saturday.
The final of the ongoing Federation Cup tournament will be held in Guwahati, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided. The Indira Gandhi Stadium will host the final on May 21, three days ahead of Mohun Bagan's round-of-16 encounter in the AFC Cup tie which is also scheduled at the venue.
