New Delhi: Robbie Keane's individual brilliance in the second half was of no use as Delhi Dynamos edged Atletico de Kolkata 4-3 at the Nehru Stadium, on Saturday night.

Locked 1-1 at the half-time, Keane came up with a brilliant performance early in the second half and struck twice to put ATK 3-1 in the lead by the 58th minute. But just when the visitors looked like sitting pretty, their defenders left too many holes at the rear and allowed Dynamos to score three goals and notch up a memorable win.

While Keane (2) and South African Sibongakonke Mbatha were the scorers for ATK, skipper Kalu Uche (2), Seityasen Singh and Matias Mirabaje found the target to turn the tables on the defending champions. The defeat pushed the Calcutta side to the ninth position in the league table with 13 points from 16 matches. Dynamos moved to the eighth place as they took their points to 15.

In the end, one felt sad for Keane as his magnificent efforts went unrewarded. Pity only a couple of thousand spectators were present to watch the Irish legend, whose first goal from a free-kick in the 52nd minute was a treat to watch.

None perhaps expected Keane to showcase his vintage form, especially after his sluggish display in the first session that saw him missing an easy goal. But his free-kick from outside the 18 yard box that left the Dynamos defence and the goalkeeper Xabier Iruetaguena stranded was a beauty and smoothly sailed into the net.

He nearly scored another two minutes later but crossbar came to Dynamos' rescue. But after four minutes, Keane made most of a mistake by the custodian and ATK fans felt they already had the match in their pocket. But then, Dynamos had other ideas and they came back dramatically to log on full points.

ATK were indeed unlucky not to get a penalty in the first half when the referee chose to ignore a handball by defender Vinit Rai. But it can hardly deny the credit to the home side, who fought gallantly and finally picked up the winner in the add-on time.
