NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) ended a 10-match losing streak to pick up their first points and win of the season at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday. That came against ATK Mohun Bagan, one of the most expensively-assembled sides of ISL IX.

Striker Wilmar Jordan made the difference with a strike in the 69th minute Once the goal came, the hosts kept discipline at the back to seal a result that ended ATK Mohun Bagan’s unbeaten streak and left them in danger of dropping out of the top-three.

It was ATK Mohun Bagan who started the game on the front foot — and it would stay that way until they conceded. The visitors had a number of shots on target at almost every point in the game but an organised NorthEast United FC defence made sure that none of these shots were ever able to be substantial ones.

It took NEUFC only two passes to find the goal — one from defence to release Emil Benny on the right flank, and then the midfielder’s cross to find Jordan whose header from the middle of the penalty box hit the target.
