Easwaran to get top CAB award

Abhimanyu Easwaran has been chosen as Cricket Association of Bengal’s Cricketer of the Year. This was decided at a meeting chaired by CAB president Sourav Ganguly on Friday and a formal announcement is to be made soon.

Calcutta: Abhimanyu Easwaran has been chosen as Cricket Association of Bengal’s Cricketer of the Year. This was decided at a meeting chaired by CAB president Sourav Ganguly on Friday and a formal announcement is to be made soon. 

Easwaran, who was part of the India A four-day matches squad during the just-concluded tour of England, made 564 runs in seven matches in the last Ranji season. He was chosen ahead of Abhishek Raman, who was Bengal’s top scorer in the tournament with 623 from eight matches. 

Abhishek was chosen for the Gentleman Cricketer of the Year award.

Ashok Dinda will once again be awarded the Best Bowler award, while Deepti Sharma has been chosen as the Best Woman Cricketer of the Year. Deepti, it was learnt, will be moving out of Bengal because of personal reasons.

Ishan Porel and Akash Pandey have been chosen for the Cricketer of the Year and Best Bowler, respectively, in the U-19 category. 

A decision on the recipient of the CAB Lifetime Achievement award will be taken after a meeting of the association’s board of trustees on Saturday. The names of former Bengal captains Sambaran Banerjee and Arun Lal, along with Barun Burman, are doing the rounds.

Meanwhile, Premdip Chatterjee has been chosen as the best umpire in the BCCI category. The other awards for the umpires have been bagged by: Sanjeev Kumar Pandey (Grade 1), Samir Kumar Ghosh (Grade 2) and Abhishek Halder (Grade 3).
