Sunrisers Hyderabad vice-captain Abhishek Sharma was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, despite playing a key role in his team’s emphatic win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Abhishek was penalised for showing dissent at the TV umpire’s decision during the match. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the match referee's sanction.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee's decision is final and binding.”
The left-hander had earlier provided a blistering start, scoring 48 off 21 deliveries to give Sunrisers Hyderabad early momentum in the powerplay. His knock, which included four fours and four sixes, helped SRH secure their first win of IPL 2026 with a commanding 65-run victory.
The incident occurred in the ninth over when Varun Chakaravarthy appeared to take a diving catch off Blessing Muzarabani. While there seemed to be no conclusive evidence that the catch was clean, TV umpire Nitin Menon ruled it in favour of the fielding side.
Abhishek disagreed with the decision and expressed his disappointment while walking off, leading to the sanction.
