Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to rejoin Delhi Capitals, this time as director of cricket. He had been a part of the franchise as mentor in IPL 2019 before taking over as BCCI president.

Sourav’s return to the Capitals was on expected lines and had been widely speculated upon since his tenure at the BCCI ended in October.

Sourav will oversee all aspects of the franchise including their ILT20 team Dubai Capitals and the SA T20 league side Pretoria Capitals.

He will work with Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting in formulating a strong side for IPL 2023. The immediate task is to find a replacement for Rishabh Pant, who has been ruled out following an accident.

A decision on who would replace Pant as captain would also have to be taken soon. The Capitals have never won the IPL and it remains to be seen if the two sharpest cricket brains can change their fortunes this time.
