New Delhi: All India Football Federation (AIFF) has offered Australian coach Arthur Papas the post of coach for the under-17, under-19 and under-22 national sides. The 30-year-old Papas is currently looking after the AIFF’s Calcutta-based developmental side, Pailan Arrows.

“There is a strong possibility that Papas could become the national coach for all our age group teams, based in Goa,” AIFF general secretary Kushal Das told The Telegraph on Wednesday. “He does not want to continue with Arrows anymore. Therefore, we have decided to offer him a bigger role.

“In addition, Papas could also help the federation in implementing the youth development programme in the clubs as per the AFC licensing criteria,” Das said.

There are, however, reports that Papas has been in talks with at least two top Goa clubs for the last couple of days.

One of the clubs have already given him a definite offer and Papas is expected to come back to them in the next couple of days.

Papas is regarded by many as the best among the current crop of foreign coaches working with the AIFF.

While his coaching methods for the Arrows earned praise, he also did a creditable job with the India under-22 team in the last Asian Championship.
