Calcutta: Twenty four-year-old Subhodip Sanyal, who was admitted to a private hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Atletico de Kolkata’s ISL match against Delhi Dynamos, at the Salt Lake Stadium, passed away on Wednesday.
“Sanyal expired at 11:40 am due to sudden cardiac failure in a case of hyperthrophic cardiomyopathy,” the hospital said through a media release.
“Sanyal, who had a history of cardiac ailment, was brought in pulseless state intubated elsewhere. He was found having Polymorphic VT. He was resuscitated after prolong CPR but his neurological status was poor — minimal brain stem reflexes.
“His portable EEG was also suggestive of extensive brain damage. He remained in persistent cardiogenic shock,” the statement added.
Sanyal suffered a cardiac arrest immediately after Jofre Mateau converted a penalty on Sunday. The doctors at the stadium attended on Sanyal at the makeshift medical unit.
ATK, meanwhile, have decided to contribute Rs one lakh to his family.
