
Calcutta: Prolific striker Ahmed Khan, who was a member of the India football team that won the gold in the first Asian Games in 1951, passed away in Bangalore on Sunday, after a prolonged illness. He was 91.
He had also represented India in the 1948 (London) and 1952 (Helsinki) Olympic Games, and the Asian Games in 1954 in Manila. He scored three goals in the Helsinki Games.
Khan was an East Bengal icon and played for the Calcutta giants from 1949 to 1959 and captained the club in 1954. He scored 62 goals for them.
