Nanjappa books Rio ticket

New Delhi: India's Prakash Nanjappa has earned a quota place for the 2016 Rio Olympics after finishing eighth in the finals of 50-metre men's pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Gabala, Azerbaijan. The 39-year-old Bangalore-based is the sixth shooter to have earned the country a quota place for next year's quadrennial extravaganza.

Toxic lagoon

Rio de Janeiro: Seventeen members of the US rowing team have suffered vomiting and diarrhoea after competing at the junior World Championships in Rio, raising fears about water pollution at the city's Olympic boating events. The spate of illnesses came after independent tests showed that the lagoon had levels of disease-causing viruses up to 1.7 million times higher than would be considered hazardous in the United States.

Kabaddi league

New Delhi: In an exciting finish, Dabang Delhi and Telegu Titans played out a 45-all draw in the Pro-Kabaddi League, here, on Tuesday. In the day's first match, Jaipur Pink Panthers scored an easy 31-18 win over Puneri Paltan. The Telegu Titans and U Mumba are now jointly lead the league table with 45 points each.

Fifa decision

Paris: Fifa Tuesday appointed former International Olympic Committee director general Francois Carrard to lead the world football governing body's 2016 Reform Committee. Swiss lawyer Carrard, 77, previously guided the IOC through its own governance reforms in the wake of the bribery scandal-hit Salt Lake City Winter Olympics of 2002.

ISL signings

Chennai: Chennaiyin FC Tuesday announced the signing of Brazilian duo Raphael Augusto and Mailson Alves Barreiro Veriato for the second season of the ISL. Augusto will be joining on loan from Fluminense.

Stoke move

London: Stoke City smashed their record fee to sign Swiss forward Xherdan Shaqiri on Tuesday.. Stoke said they had paid £12 million to Inter Milan for Shaqiri. Shaqiri, who has signed a five-year deal, could make his debut at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

CFL tie

Calcutta: Tollygunge Agragami and BNR played out a barren draw in a match of the CFL Premier Division, at the Barasat Stadium, on Tuesday. Sanjib Ghosh of BNR was adjudged MoM.

Table tennis

New Delhi: India's Mudit Dani and Tanushree Das Gupta entered the semi-finals of the junior boys' and girls' singles respectively, at the Jordan Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Tournament in Amman. Mudit defeated Abdulaziz Shulabi Bu of Saudi Arabia 11-7, 10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8 , while Tanushree beat Azerbaijan's Zhou Chuyi 11-8, 7-11, 5-11, 14-16, 15-13, 11-7, 11-8.
